Courtyard by Marriott Honmmachi
Chuoku, 2 Chome-3-7 Minamihonmachi,
Osaka, 541-0054, Japan
Location
Courtyard by Marriott Honmachi in Osaka stands in an extremely convenient location with the Sakaisuji Hommachi metro entrance right outside its doors. It offers easy access to most of the city's vibrant districts and never felt extremely crowded.
We chose Courtyard by Marriott Honmachi in Osaka for our trip this time round because we were heading in to the World Expo in Osaka and it was located on the direct line to the entrance of the World Expo. Along with that, prices in Osaka for the weekend we were there were exorbitant due to a long weekend and locals travelling all around. Courtyard by Marriott ended up being the most affordable option for us.

Our Stay
We stayed as Platinum Elite Marriott members and upon check in, we were given the following:
Late Check Out (4pm)
Room Upgrade
Welcome Amenities
As for the welcome amenities, we were offered one of the three:
1500 JPY per person per night credit
500 bonvoy points
F&B amenities which consisted of japanese snacks and soda
We opted for the per night credit which we utilised for breakfast on one of the mornings we had early activities.
Our hotel loyalty was acknowledged and we were upgraded from the Ambitious Room to Beautiful King room located on L17 top floor in a corner. The rooms in Japan are typically compact and so was Courtyard by Marriott Honmachi. Our room upgrade was from a 24 sqm to a 30 sqm room and the size increase was definitely welcomed. We paid 250 SGD for our room and the upgrade was priced at 300 SGD, making it a 50 SGD worth of upgrade.
The stay was comfortable, no frills, everything you needed was available. Though one thing we absolutely love about Japanese hotels is the provision of pyjamas. I think more countries and more hotels should provide this option. It is nice to have a fresh set of pyjamas everyday and also not have to pack a separate set of clothes.
We were also offered late check out at 4pm, which we very gratefully accepted, considering our train was not until the afternoon. We value this at the usual 10 % of the room rate which we booked at, which makes it a 25 SGD value.
Amenities
As a city hotel, there are not alot of amenities. There was an ultra compact gym and an open air bath (not photographed).

Breakfast
One thing that was a disappointing change is that breakfast is no longer included for platinum elite members. I guess this is part of the trimming down of loyalty. In the past platinum elite members used to have complimentary breakfast, but these days it is listed under the welcome gift choice and dependent on whether the hotel wants to offer it. Complimentary breakfasts are still provided if there are lounges, but in the case, Courtyard by Marriott Honmachi did not offer breakfast as part of the welcome gift choice.
The cost of breakfast is 3000 JPY per person and we used our credit for one of the mornings. The breakfast venue was compact in size but had very good quality food and plenty of variety. You can book your slot for breakfast at the lobby and there are 4 slots available in the morning, mostly for crowd control. We selected the 0700-0745 slot and the staff was strict about timing, reminding us that our slot was ending 5 mins before 0745.
Overall
Courtyard by Marriott Honmachi in Osaka was no frills, a comfortable stay and an easy way to get around. Whilst you might not get the best value on a loyalty program, it is a great hotel where you are out and about most days and need a comfortable, clean place to rest. Our total benefits amounted to ~ 100 SGD, which is great considering we paid 250 SGD for a night here.
Room Upgrade: 50 SGD
Hotel Credit: 25 SGD
Late Check Out: 25 AUD
Would We Recommend?
Yes. If you are going to be exploring Osaka and just need a place for a good nights rest. Courtyard by Marriott Honmachi ticks alot of boxes. It is also near an area that has plenty of nice cafes that is within walking distance. The area is quiet and away from the hustle and bustle of Osaka which makes it a very pleasant location.
