Crown Towers, Melbourne
8 Whiteman St,
Southbank VIC 3006,
Australia
Location
Located on the Southbank of the Yarra River, Crown Towers is an icon in the Melbourne city skyline. It is where tourists go for the Casino and where expos and conferences are held. There are a number of Crown hotels within the precinct, including Crown Metropol and Crown Promenade and all three hotels are connected to make up the Crown Precinct. Of course, the jewel goes to Crown Towers, the 5 star luxury hotel that offers panoramic views of the city skyline, yarra river as well as Port Phillip bay. It is also conveniently located towards the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre so if you are in Melbourne for a conference, this would be a very attractive option.

As per our usual trips, we visited Crown Towers using AMEX FHR. As part of this, we get the following benefits:
Room upgrade, where available
12 pm Early Check In
4 pm Late Check Out (Guaranteed)
Daily Breakfast for 2
100 USD Property Credit

In this instance, we paid 450 AUD for a Deluxe Room (F5-F18) with a 43 sqm sized room and was upgraded to the a 54 sqm Studio which was huge and had an amazing view of the Yarra River and the CBD. It is still so amazing to watch our room video because the TV looked so tiny in comparison to the space around. The rate for this room goes at 580 AUD which means a 2 level upgrade and a whopping 130 AUD in value.
Crown Towers is modern lux, plenty of whites and chandeliers everywhere and the amenities and fittings are all very high quality, as you would expect from an FHR property. Unfortunately during both our stays, they were unable to accomodate us to the 12 pm check in time. However, they promptly took our details and dropped us a message the moment the room was ready, which was in the early afternoon.
The moment I arrived in the room, our luggage had already been sent there and housekeeping came with a bottle of bubbles as well as a bowl of fruits to welcome us which was very lovely and made sure we had everything we needed, which was such a nice gesture.
2 things I loved about our stay at Crown Towers. The bath and staring out the window watching the day go by. If i wanted to go to a hotel to staycay, Crown Towers would be a top choice.
Breakfast
Breakfast is served at the Conservatory, which is very famous for their buffet spreads. Breakfast was also very extravagant. There was a chocolate fountain, complete with fresh strawberries and multiple stations catering for the different palates. Everyday was a new experience at the Conservatory. The team at the Conservatory were attentive and always made sure plates were kept and coffee orders were filled. Speaking of coffee, barista brewed coffee is a standard here at most 5* hotels in Melbourne and definitely very well appreciated. The value of breakfast here is pegged to the local rate, which would make it 40 AUD x 2 pax.
Facilities
The gym was so massive. It had multiple floors of Technogym equipment, all very well maintained and also different spaces for yoga, boxing etc. So extravagant but such a delight to visit. Unfortunately when we stayed, the pool was undergoing maintenance and we were unable to use it but Crown Towers has one of those drool worthy indoor pools that has serious vibes. Perhaps next time we would be able to utilise these. Instead of using the amenities to maximise our late check out, we decided to lounge in the room instead and order room service with our 100 USD (or 150 AUD) credit instead. Together with the 10 % room rate, which a value we assign for late check out, both these credits amounted to 208 AUD.
In total, using AMEX FHR gave us a total benefit worth 418 AUD. Considering we paid 450 AUD, I would say this is fantastic value.
Would We Recommend?
Yes! Yes! Yes! It is fantastic value when you think about the quality and the benefits provided. I know for a fact as well that Crown Towers have been very consistent. We have stayed there multiple times under AMEX FHR and they have always consistently gave us a double level upgrade. It is within walking distance to the CBD and also close to places like DFO South Wharf and walkable to South Melbourne Market, which makes it a very good option for exploring.
