Dhawa Yura Kyoto
84 ダーワ・悠洛 京都
Higashiyama Ward, Ohashicho,
〒605-0009 Kyoto, Japan
Location
Dhawa Yura Kyoto offers a tranquil boutique hotel experience in the heart of Kyoto. Located in Higashiyama Ward, it is just a short walk from landmarks like Pontocho Alley, Gion district and Nishiki Market, providing an excellent base for exploring Kyoto, whilst staying out of the main tourist district. It is a beautiful walk in the evenings along the Kamo River to get the Dhawa Yura. The hotel belongs to the Banyan Tree Group and as with the group's ethos, combines local cultural influences with sustainability concepts.
Walk through the main entrance and you are greeted by the rickshaws that are commonly seen on the streets of Kyoto, together with a huge bonsai and a living bamboo forest.

Our Stay
We stayed at Dhawa Yura under the free AMEX stay program and received the following benefits:
Late Check Out (4pm)
Daily Breakfast for 2
Welcome Amenities
This free stay would have costed us 250 SGD for the Premier Room we stayed in. There is no upgrade offered, but the room is a nicely sized 26 sqm. Even with the tatami area as well as the loungechair and table, still felt spacious larger due to the design of the room.
Our stay was very comfortable, with great bedding, coffee and tea facilities that we could have around the tatami seating areas. We particularly enjoyed the very comfortable pyjamas offered and definitely felt extremely relaxed during our stay here.

Hotel Facilities
There is a very compact gym that has basic equipment - though when we were there, the bar was out of use. So if you value a good gym as part of your stay, Dhawa Yura is probably not going to tick the boxes. There is also a spa, 8Lements, if you so choose to have a massage during your stay here.

One of the places we did enjoy very much, was the bar area. Located opposite to the reception area, the bar is inviting and decorated immaculately, where we were offered our free sake-based cocktail as part of the welcome amenity. It was light and refreshing and we had a great time watching the bartender. It is also possible to get board games from the reception and spend some time with friends and family. Value of this? Let's peg it at 10 SGD per cocktail and snacks.
Breakfast
Breakfast is a standout at Dhawa Yura. There is something about eating next to a bamboo forest, with quality ingredients and peace and quiet. Whilst the breakfast area felt very compact, there is actually a plethora of options available. I would highly recommend the Japanese dishes, which include side dishes, pickles, miso soup, and fish options. For those who prefer their western meals, there is a good selection of eggs, sausages and pastries. I didn't get a chance to try these but they look really appetising as well. As usual, we value breakfast at the local rate at a cafe, which in this case, we used 20 SGD x 2 = 40 SGD in value.

Overall
Dhawa Yura is a modern lux type of accomodation. It feels well placed for couples or travellers who want a slower pace. The entire hotel is extremely dim, so do take that in mind if you prefer somewhere that is a little brighter.
Our overall savings?
250 SGD because the room was free, 40 SGD for breakfast and 20 SGD for cocktails. Let's leave the free room out of the equation. For the 60 SGD in additional value that we received which makes it ~ 25 % of the room value, we thought Dhawa Yura provided some fantastic add ons.
Would We Recommended
Yes! If you want a slower pace, somewhere outside of the main tourist area and want to enjoy Kyoto at your pace, Dhawa Yura is exactly that. It is extremely competitively priced but provides a high quality, high value stay.
