Location
Located at 650 Lonsdale Street in Melbourne’s bustling central business district, The Ritz-Carlton Melbourne occupies a prime position in one of the city’s tallest skyscrapers. Guests enjoy immediate access to the city’s top attractions, including Federation Square, the Melbourne Cricket Ground, and the high-end shopping and dining precincts on Collins Street. Additionally, Southern Cross Station is just a short walk away, making it easy for guests to explore all that Melbourne has to offer.
Rooms are located from L65 to 79 and truly boasts some of the best uninterrupted views of Melbourne, Yarra River and Port Philip Bay.
Our Stay
We booked with AMEX FHR which is usually our preferred travel method.
These are the listed benefits for our stay:
Guaranteed upgrade
Early check in (12 pm)
Late check out (4 pm)
Daily breakfast for 2
100 USD property credit
The actuals:

Our room was upgraded from a premier room (1 king bed 484 sq ft) which we paid 643 SGD per night for to a Habor view room (1 kind bed 496 sq ft) which costs 677 SGD for the same time period. Whilst the room was fundamentally the same, the view we got was spectacular.
For that reason, we value this upgrade at 35 SGD.

We always utilise the early check in and late check out for these FHR properties. It was the same for this stay and we were able to get our room at 12 pm and checked out at 4 pm. The ability to do this allows us to properly utilise the facilities and really enjoy what the hotel had to offer. Its difficult to put a value on this, but we use a 10 % of hotel rate for this, which makes the value 60 SGD.

Breakfast was absolutely spectacular. As if the views are not enough, the breakfast had a variety of freshly pressed juices, barista coffee and made to order food which had a variety of pastries, cold bar as well as hot food. We value this at the local rate of a breakfast, which would make it valued at 40 SGD x 2 pax.

This time we didnt make it to the spa to utilise the 100 USD property credit which was approximately equivalent to 130 SGD. However, we did get a nice tea at the Ritz Carlton Lounge where we utilized the credit for some oysters and local produce.
Hotel Loyalty is an unfortunate topic for Ritz Carlton. As we had previously encountered with several Ritz Carlton properties, the Marriot Bonvoy Platinum Status does not actually confer very much. This means no lounge access although we did manage to get points earned on this stay.
In total, the AMEX FHR gave us a total of benefits worth approximately 305 SGD.
Would We Recommend?
Yes, Yes, Yes! Ritz Carlton Melbourne is the new kid on the block, having opened only in 2023. But it has very quickly made it to the top of our list for hotels in Melbourne. We have stayed in several 5* establishments in Melbourne and Ritz-Carlton has brought on a new invigoration to what luxury should feel like and a much needed competition in this space.
