A Review of InterContinental Le Grand Paris

2 Rue Scribe,

75009 Paris, France

InterContinental Le Grand Paris is a statement in Parisian history. It was commissioned by Baron Haussman and subsequently inaugurated by Empress Eugenie in 1862. To say this hotel dazzles is an understatement.

Location

InterContinental Le Grand Paris is located right at the Opera subway station. If you are coming from the airport, the airport bus stops right at Opera and it is literally a 2 min walk to the hotel. So InterContinental Le Grand Paris is definitely extremely convenient. During our stay here, it was also very convenient to walk around - with plenty of shopping malls in the vicinity and plenty to see and do.

Our Stay:

As InterContinental Ambassadors, these were the benefits we were given:

  • Guaranteed one category room upgrade

  • Guaranteed late check out (4pm)

  • 20 USD Restaurant Credit

Despite booking for a Classic room (500 Euroes), we were given a multi-level upgrade to a King Junior Suite (840 Euroes), which was a beautiful surprise. I have never written up a benefit that has been so big before, but our value of this upgrade is 340 Euroes. This is one of the reasons for us staying as InterContinental Ambassadors. IHG is typically really generous with the upgrades and they do alot of take care of their brand loyal members, which has been consistent in many countries.

The room is glorious. Our Junior Suite had a comfortable couch, writing desk, comfortable bedding, a tub all the modern comforts that we expect from a 5* hotel. I am sure this was not the way just 5 years ago, but with the latest restoration under Pierre Yves Rochon, Intercontinental Le Grand is now modern, new, the palette is warm and full of pastels and I absolutely loved it.

Hotel Credit

We used our 20 USD credit at Cafe de la Paix and had a beautiful dinner there, which you can read in a separate post. But I do want to highlight this 20 USD credit. I am sorry, but IHG. Surely you can do better. 20 USD? We had to reconfirm this as we thought we heard wrong. Perhaps it would make sense to just provide breakfast instead of this very sad credit which we were wondering what to do with.

Breakfast

Unfortunately, breakfast was not included. But it gave us a chance to explore Paris in the morning and we managed to get a fantastic drip from one of the top roasters in the world - Kawa Coffee. They have just rebranded themselves as Tanat Coffee, but I trust the consistency to be right up there. A little of a digress, but a cafe that is definitely worth talking about.

In total, our IHG Ambassador stay gave us a total benefit of approximately 355 Euroes, which is a win, despite not having complimentary breakfast.

Would We Recommend?

Yes! After so many stays in Paris, I think this hotel is the one I love the most. We were slightly tickled when we were checking out and took a glance at the board that showed the price at the hotel if you just rocked up without a reservation. Only a cool 2600 Euroes for the Junior Suite that we were at. If you get this place at the 500 Euroes price point that we got it at, it would be considered good value.
