Location

Barahat Msheireb St,

Doha, Qatar

Doha seems like such a random place but its our choice of transit if we head into Europe or US. Mandarin Oriental is one of our top choices whereever we go as every MO we have visited has always surprised us with hospitality. The people are so friendly and make each stay so special and homely. The hotels are decked out in such an exquisite manner, fittings, furnishing and bedding. Needless to say, we were very excited to finally get to stay at Mandarin Oriental Doha.

Mandarin Oriental Doha is located in the Msheireb Downtown district and overlooks Baharat Msheireb, which is the largest covered square in Doha. When we were there, apart from the restaurants in the town, there were also random Porches sitting on display in the square. The location is fantastic, it is extremely close to Souq Waqif, Al Corniche as well as the Museums. This time around, we decided to go around Doha via public transport and MO being in the middle of town made it extremely convenient.

Our Stay

We booked our stay using Amex FHR, and these are the benefits we received:

  • Early Check In (When Available)

  • 4pm Late Check Out (Guaranteed)

  • 100 USD Property Credit

  • Daily Breakfast

We had booked a Superior Room, which was 484 sqft for a rate of 480 SGD and were upgraded 3 levels to a Studio Suite. The Studio Suite was a whooping 753 sqft with a rate of 860 SGD. I don't think we have ever seen this level of upgrade before in our previous FHR stays, but we certainly enjoyed it very much. With the value of upgrade sitting at 380 SGD, I think we can almost agree that this stay is superb value already.

The hotel is designed by David Collins studio and it is such a beautiful mix of Qatari style with contemporary elements. The overall vibe is luxurious but at the same time classy and timeless. The beds were plush and comfortable, the amenities thoughtful. We had a very comfortable stay during our time at MO Doha.

The highlight for this stay was the exceptional tub. It was so massive and beautiful. When my partner went for his massage and spa treatment to utilise his 100 USD credit, I was very happy to stay in the room for a soak.

Breakfast

There is a good mix of ala carte and buffet counter items at the breakfast cafe. The quality was really good, as we would expect of Mandarin Oriental but it was really nice that the team knew what we enjoyed and also offered to do something a little extra every day. When they knew that we really enjoyed our arabic food, they offered to give us everything in smaller portions so that we could sample all of it, which I thought was such a generous gesture. Everytime we dropped by the Arabic coffee cart, the team would always come by immediately and offer us a coffee and a date. These are the little reasons why we love staying at Mandarin Oriental. Every MO we have visited has made us feel like we are family and made us feel extremely welcomed without being overburdened.

The value of breakfast, as usual, will be pegged to the local rate of having brunch, which we value at 20 SGD per person, making it a total value of 40 SGD per night.

Amenities

The gym at MO Doha was huge with different sections for different purposes. For those who would like a separate section, there is also a dedicated women's only section. As you go through this never ending space, you reach the women's change room, where you can also find a separate space for the sauna and spa, which looked absolutely beautiful.

As with most FHR stays, we utilise our late check out and use it on the facilities. This time round, we chose to just hang in our room and utilise our very beautiful bathtub, which was too perfect to want to go anywhere else. For this stay, we arrived at 6 am into Doha and the team at MO Doha was kind enough to whisk us up to get some breakfast whilst they got our room ready, which they did before 8 am. We were extremely impressed by the team for going out of their way to feed us whilst we waited for an extremely early check in, which they were happy to accomodate to as well. As with all our stays, we value our early check ins and late check outs at 10 % of hotel rate for which, which works out to be 86 SGD in value.

Overall

We had an exceptional stay at Mandarin Oriental, Doha. There are many top end hotels around Doha and I am sure they are also amazing, but MO always provides that little extra that I am looking for in a hotel stay. The feel of being at home and being taken care of.

In total, using our FHR benefits, we saved around 636 SGD. I don't think we have ever had a situation like this before where the overall value we obtained exceeds the amount we paid (480 SGD).

Would We Recommend?

Yes! Yes! Yes! Mandarin Oriental Doha is simply exquisite. There are several hotels I look back at fondly and MO Doha stays right at the top of that list. Both my partner and I agree that if we transit again in Doha, MO would be our top choice to stay at. The team there was phenomenal, made sure that we had everything we needed and also remained available and kind throughout our stay.
