Our Recommended Holiday BnB: Dingleigh of Sassafras in Mount Dandenong

When you visit Mount Dandenong, you would be spoilt for choices when it comes to accomodation. We have tried multiple in the area and whilst many are great, there have been a few that have been deceptively beautiful in pictures and perhaps not so clean in person. So we decided to recommend our favourite in the area - Dingleigh of Sassafras. This accomodation is adults only, no pets, so do keep that in mind before booking! We will share others that are suitable for friends and families in the subsequent posts.
Dingleigh of Sassafras is nestled right in the heart of Sassafras. This means that the local shops, including the famous Miss Marples and the little Sassafras village is located a 10 minute walk away. The accomodation itself is right behind Sassafras creek and is the perfect location to access walks and hikes around the area. We love the fact that Dingleigh at Sassafras is elegantly curated and decorated with vintage and ornate furnishing. Every pieces feels thoughtfully chosen and truly blends what a get-away feels like with a cozy, lived-in warmth. It is that kind of perfect place for retirement.
Dingleigh of Sassafras has 2 options, The Reader's Cottage and the Writer's Studio. We opted for the Reader's Cottage, which was slightly larger in size complete with a living space and kitchen and a bath. Our stay rate was 387 AUD for a night. Do note that on the weekends, there is a 2 night minimum stay requirement but if you are visiting in the middle of the week, a 1 night stay is possible.
The team at Dingleigh of Sassafras provided very clear instructions a few days before our arrival, including information to access the place, how to use the heating as well as their automated blinds and WIFI. If you are a guest at Dingleigh of Sassafras and choose to visit Ripe Cafe, which is just a few minutes walk at the main strip of Sassafras, you also get free coffee/tea when you quote Dingleigh when you reserve a table, which is fantastic. We went to Ripe after we checked out of Dingleigh and absolutely loved it. Everyone goes to Miss Marples are the lines can often be overwhelming, but right next door, the locals flock to Ripe, where there are wonderful platters and scones available.
We had a wonderful stay here. The entire place was extremely clean and well maintained. It is very clear that the team at Dingleigh of Sassafras truly takes pride in their accomodation and every small piece of detail is curated to ensure that your stay is truly luxurious and comfortable. During our stay, we also got to meet Benny, the resident border collie who like the owner mentioned in his notes to us, has perfected his feed me and let me in look. I always love an accomodation with a dog who loves his guests.
If you are looking to book, vacation homes in and around Melbourne typically have an earlier check out time, so do make sure you have plenty of time to check out, or enquire with the property if it is possible to check out at a later time if there are no visitors coming in after. For Dingleigh of Sassafras, check in is after 3pm and check out time is before 10 am.

Would We Recommend?
Yes! If you are looking for a relaxing get away in Mount Dandenongs and want to get to some of the best hiking trails around, this would be the accomodation. We loved the fact that this place was extremely comfortable, clean and relaxing. Food was easily accessible and the kitchen was well equipped.
