Sunway Resort Hotel in Kuala Lumpur

1, Persiaran Lagoon,

Bandar Sunway,

47500 Petaling Jaya,

Selangor, Malaysia

Located within the vibrant Sunway City in Petaling Jaya, Sunway Resort Hotel is one of many hotels in the area and considered the premium hotel within Sunway City. The hotel enjoys a fully sheltered connection to everything around it, including Sunway Pyramid Mall and Sunway Lagoon. Recently refurbished, the property now presents a more modern aesthetic paired with a refreshed sense of service. Despite its busy surroundings, the hotel still offers moments of tranquility, especially from the higher floors that overlook the lagoon and resort area.

For this stay, we booked via GHA as titanium members. We were upgraded from a Deluxe Room to a King Club Room with Club Lounge access on Level 20. Check in is handled directly at the Club Lounge which made the arrival quick and private. The room was spacious with a generous seating area and a view over the lagoon. Do note that due to the proximity, sounds from the resort below can be slightly noisy. We found that the party music played into the evenings, but gets quiet once the lagoon is closed for the day.

Our room was modern and comfortable. The bedding leaned towards firm but it was comfortable. With the refurb, the blinds were automated and was fully black out. The lighting control bedside was also super convenient. Baths came with daily replenished bath salts. Turndown service added thoughtful touches like macarons every evening and a fully stocked and complimentary minibar. For our stay, we were also given early check in and late check out up to 4pm as well as laundry service for three pieces daily which if you deliver by 11 am, would be returned on the same day. We were also presented a thoughtful welcome gift of fruits and chocolates.

The hotels amenities were splendid. The gym, equipped with Technogym machines was spacious, bright and overlooked the pool area. The adjoining sauna and steam rooms were spotless and thankfully quiet. Though we skipped the pool - which was immensely popular with families during our stay. All the facilities overall were very well maintained.

The Club Lounge experience stood out during our stay. We made it to both the afternoon tea and evening canapes at the club lounge. Afternoon tea was pretty standard with sandwiches, pastries and scones but the evening canapes were extensive. Highlights include Peking Duck rolls, shrimp skewers, falafel and sweets like raspberry cheesecake cups and mango crepes. Drinks were plentiful, ranging from cocktails and mocktails to wines and spirits. It felt like excellent value for the room upgrade.

For breakfast, guests with club access can diner either at the hotel's main buffet or at Gordon Ramsay's Bar and Grill. On our first day we went to the main hotel buffet breakfast which had an impressively wide selection of local and international selection stretched across endless bain-maries. The dining hall is large and reminded me for a resort from the 90s. Despite the crowds, the staff kept the area tidy and the offerings were constantly replenishes. The food in general was rather mid, and not one to remember.

Day 2 at Gordon Ramsay Bar and Grill was a calmer affair: higher quality a la carte selections such as small plates and mains complemented by barista coffee and freshly pressed juices. The setting felt elevated, the service polished and the meal more like a brunch than the chaos of the buffet in the main dining hall.

With its seamless integration to the mall, good room quality, polished staff and stellar GHA membership recognition, Sunway Resort Hotel met our needs and more and it is certainly a hotel we would return to.
