We have stayed at Banyan Tree, Bangkok a few times in the past. Back when Amex Plat used to offer the Serenity Suite at Banyan Tree, Bangkok, this was always a no-brainer. No need for planning, book our room and just fly. These days it has been devalued to a Panorama Club City View and we may just have to relook at our options moving forward.
This time, we travelled with a party of four and chose the 2 bedroom Serenity Club. For those who have a Mastercard, Banyan tree offers a stay 2 nights and get the third night free promotion which is worth looking at. This includes early check in and late check out as well as complimentary breakfast. We valued this free night at around 260 SGD after a comparison with and without the promo code.

We were whisked away to the Club Lounge floor for our check in as the team at Banyan tree took care of our luggage. One of the things I love so much about Bangkok, is the service. The asian service really cannot be beat. The moment you come anywhere close to the front door, you will be greeted with smiles, there will be someone to help you with your bags and direct you to where you need to be. This is exactly Banyan Tree Bangkok and one of the reasons we have made multiple return trips.
We start with a blue pea lemongrass drink, some plantain chips and a cold towel as the concierge assists with our check in. We arrived quite late in the evening due to delays to our flight and once the concierge heard about it, she immediately asked if we wanted refreshments, snacks and drinks from the lounge, which was a really nice gesture.

Our Stay
After our swift check in, we made it to our 2 bedroom Serenity Suite, which was really spacious. On the website, it says it ranges between 1280 to 1540 sq ft and it certainly felt like so with a very big living area, dining, complete with stove, 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The bedding is very comfortable and bath and shower amenities were great. Everyday, our housekeeper would replace bath salts and a bath scrub for the shower, together with little treats like the signature banyan tree turtle plushy as well as face oil to keep things exciting.
One of the great perks of staying at the Serenity Suite, is not only club lounge access privileges, but also complimentary laundry or pressing for up to 4 pieces a day, which we really appreciated, after an extremely hot day out. This also means if we stay at Banyan Tree, we travel extremely light. There was also other benefits like complimentary use of the boardroom but that was not something we utilised. We peg the laundry benefit at 4 SGD per piece, which is pretty standard at most 5* hotels. We max-ed the 4 piece a day benefit, which made the total value 48 SGD.
Breakfast
We had our breakfast at the club lounge on most days. The quality was good and had good variety. We stayed for the 3 nights and never once got bored and not know what to have for brekkie. The value of breakfast, as usual, will be pegged to the local rate of having a brunch, which we value at 20 SGD per person, making it a value of 240 SGD over the 3 night stay.
We made it down to the main buffet breakfast one of the days. It was in general, quite quiet and pleasant, as compared to some other hotels in Bangkok, where breakfast in the main dining hall feels like a university campus. For the rest of the days, we retreated back to the club lounge for breakfast. Although smaller, the selection was still comprehensive and was plenty sufficient for us.
Club Lounge
On one of the days we actually made it back in time for aperitif hour and had some snacks and cocktail at the lounge. In a city like Bangkok, where there is so much to explore and venture around, we found ourselves never really heading back to the hotel for a mid day break of aperitif. However, we always try to make it a point to use the facilities to get a good representation of what the hotel and team can offer. At the club lounge, the Banyan Tree team was always smiling, ready to help and happy to engage in a chat.
Overall
It was surprisingly difficult to find a 2 bedroom suite in Bangkok which was reasonably priced at a hotel chain we wanted to stay at. Alot of the hotels we looked at were only offering connecting rooms or 2 separate rooms, which was not something we wanted on this trip. With the Mastercard deal, this ended up being very reasonable.
Our stays here are always pleasant with the team being generous with their time and always happy to help. Banyan Tree sits in quite a unique positioning. They are all about sustainability and responsible luxury. Sometimes it can feel as though wear and tear is not taken care off, for example, some of the furniture was very dated and scratched, or water marks on the toilet fittings. I think this is such a delicate line to balance when you talk luxury and sustainability at the same time. Whilst Banyan tree is not perfect, the overall stay is always very pleasant and you are guaranteed to be well looked after, particularly at this price point.
The savings for this trip? From the mastercard deal, to laundry and breakfast, sits at 548 SGD over 3 nights or approximately 182 SGD per night, overall a very good deal.
Would We Recommend
Yes! I think Banyan Tree has its place in Bangkok. There are so many hotels in Bangkok that suits every budget, you would be spoilt for choice. We have been returning to Banyan Tree Bangkok over the last few years (mostly due to our Amex free stay) but still, everytime we visit, the experience is welcoming and warm.
