Bellustar Tokyo Review - 1 Michelin Key In The Heart of Tokyo

Bellustar Tokyo

Okyu Kabukicho Tower 45 F

1 Chrome-29-1 Kabukicho

Shinjuku City

Tokyo 160-0021, Japan

Nestled in the electric heart of Shinjuku and in Tokyo's Kabukicho district, Bellustar Tokyo rises atop the sleek Tokyu Kabukicho Tower, offering a serene escape amind urband frenzy. Bellustar Tokyo is a GHA hotel and holds one Michelin Key.

Michelin keys are certainly a rather new concept. We haven't necessarily been looking out for them, but these days hotels place their Michelin keys right out in their lobby and it is certainly hard to miss then. Just like its restaurant counterpart, one Michelin key honours hotels that deliver a very good stay that is worth a stop, evaluated on comfort, service, personality and value and Bellustar earned it in 2025.

Interior of the room

Bellustar Tokyo sits in a newly opened tower (2023) and sits steps away from the JR Shinjuku Station and shopping hubs like Lumine. Bellustar Tokyo sits in the same building at Groove Shinjuku, which is also another GHA managed sibling in the same tower occupying floors 18-38 at significantly lower rates. Bellustar on the other hand, is much higher end, occupying just 6 floors with a total of 97 rooms.

We booked Bellustar directly via GHA, where we are titanium members. Despite our status, there was no room upgrade offered. Value for this = 0 SGD. This must be a first in a GHA property in asia where we were not offered a better room. At check in, we felt extremely rushed. The team seemed extremely keen to just send us up to our room and we didn't feel as though we were given a proper brief of the hotel and its facilities or what to expect. We were just whisked away to our room and given a room tour. In fact, because we moved from Groove Shinjuku over to Bellustar, the team brought us through a restricted access and to this date, we don't actually know how to get to the main lift entrance of Bellustar and during our stay, we continued to use that restricted access. Let's say till this day, we dont actually know how to access Bellustar.

Let's start with our room, we had the Studio Premier which sits at a huge 51-55 sqm. This by Tokyo standards is a luxury. We had a beautiful king bed, a nice deep tub, skyline views and a great set of amenities. Interestingly, they gave us one set to use and another packaged as a box to go. It is like they already know their guests like their hotel branded amenity kit and has already pre-prepared for that ask. And of course, pyjamas, how can we forget how thoughtful Japanese hotels are to always provide you with a set of pyjamas.

We were also gifted a fruit platter which featured local produce: Persimmon from Nara, Fig from Fukuoka, Shine Muscat from Nagano and Kyoho Grapes from Yamanashi. All exceptionally delicious and sweet. The gorgeous part of the stay is definitely the view over Tokyo. It is incredibly mesmerising to see the density that is Tokyo.

Birds Eye View of Tokyo

As part of our stay, we were given free lounge access, which was fantastic. The lounge was quiet, sleek and absolutely gorgeous. There were panoramic views that sweep across the Tokyo skyline. We were told that there are days where you can catch Mount Fuji - unfortunately during our time there, it was cloudy and rainy most of the days, though we enjoyed just sitting at the lounge and watching the rain on the 46th floor. At the lounge, there were basic snacks, drinks, coffee and tea. We enjoyed checking out the snacks that we had previously seen at the various Depachikas which we wanted to try but didn't want to buy a box of.

Breakfast is complimentary as GHA Titanium members and the breakfast is at its main restaurant. Again, the restaurant had an exceptional view of Tokyo. Here, breakfast is only western and served a la carte. Think fresh options without buffer chaos. The team is always happy to cater, even as I asked very specifically for 2 tablespoons of cocopops, just because. The coffee was certainly exquisite as well.

In terms of facilities, it is best to not expect too much out of hotels in central Tokyo. You would be lucky to have a spacious gym. Even in the case of Bellustar, the gym is compact at best. Though for 97 rooms, it is probably quite a luxury and the in room TV displays the occupancy, if you wish to have some privacy. There is no pool or spa in the hotel.

Overall

It was a really nice and relaxing stay. Though we felt rushed at the start of our stay, the pace progressively slowed. We didn't feel the team at Bellustar to be particularly attentive or welcoming, but perhaps they just wanted to give us the privacy that I assume many of their guests would like.

Overall in terms of value and savings, we paid 800 SGD and received a grand total of 40 SGD, from our complimentary breakfast. It is poor value at best, and I think you are better off getting a cheaper rate from Trip.com and then just paying for breakfast if you so wish to have breakfast at the hotel.

Would We Recommend?

Yes if you feel like splurging and want to spend a relaxing time in the middle of Tokyo. Compared to other high end luxury hotels, a rate of 800 SGD per night is not atrocious. If you value privacy and you truly want to unwind and be uninterrupted, both from guests and hotel staff, this is a fantastic choice.
