Pocket by Flip Coffee Roasters

Tucked away in a shophouse along Bukit Timah Road, Pocket by Flip Coffee Roasters is evidently a place for coffee lovers. You know you are in a good place when the coffee beans available is almost as large as the menu available. Flip Coffee Roasters maintains a very strong alignment with ethically sourced, traceable lots and many of their coffees are procured from small estates with transparency practices that support sustainable models and community well-being which is fantastic to see.

These days we have been gravitating towards funky flavours and anaerobic processing and we were recommended the El Vergel Magnum Sidra. The first mouth of this cup was a crazy mouthful of strawberry jam and as time progressed and the cup cooled, we got a nice raspberry and grape combination. Extremely juicy, clean yet complex. This cup is a definite keeper. The notes were on point and as I am writing this, I can almost taste the sweetness of this cup.
The other, a Finca Iris, is another rarer bean that is not available in many roasters in Asia. When we see it in a shop, we always get it. Finca Iris lots are always known for their complexity, with beautiful clean layers of stone fruits, floral tones and plenty of sweetness. Here in the cup, we got a beautiful red fruit sweetness as well as stone fruit preserve flavours that opened up really beautifully as the temperature cooled down.
Both beans we had showed a beautiful roasting profile, leaning towards a light roast, preserving the beautifully delicate floral, fruity and sweet notes, which we enjoyed very much.

For those looking for beans and accessories, like any good roasters, Pocket has a nice selection of beans available and the team is very helpful in recommendations.

Accessibility
Pocket by Flip Coffee is very easily accessible. Tan Kah Kee MRT is only a few minutes walk away. There is also roadside parking but limited, so do take note if you are driving.
The Damage
The 2 cups we had were of a more premium range, so prices were on the higher side. However, there is a range from 7 up to 20 SGD available for selection at the cafe.
Would we recommend?
A resounding yes for us! It has been a while since we have had an extremely well balanced drip at a cafe. Drip coffee is an art and the skills and knowledge of the barista is vital in bringing forth the flavours it says it has. Together with the fact that in recent years, the quality of beans have been under pressure, we think that Pocket by Flip Coffee is doing some fantastic things.
