6HEAD Perth
Shop 1, Ground Floor/One
The Esplanade, Perth WA 6000,
Australia
6HEAD has branches in Sydney and Perth and it stands out if you are looking for a steakhouse. The Head of Culinary is Sean Hall, a South African who began working on his grandfather's cattle farm early in his life. At 6HEAD, there is a strong sense of beef preparation and a dedication to fire-cooking techniques that you can view through the semi open kitchen.

6HEAD Perth occupies the ground floor of the Chevron Tower at Elizabeth Quay, a beautiful area to walk around in the night. The restaurant starts with a dramatic curtain at the main lobby that transcends into a dark interior with a gorgeous bar prep in the center of the main dining hall. On the length of one side sits the semi open kitchen where you can hear the meats being prepared and see the fire and the activities in the kitchen.

Let's start by talking wines. The wine list at 6HEAD was extensive and showcased a commitment to the local vineyards. There were many glasses of exquisite wines by the glass from the Margaret River region which we were delighted to try. Our wines for the night were:
LAS Vino Pirate Blend - one of Margaret River's most innovative expressions using Portuguese varietal blend. Beautiful notes of spices, cinnamon, red fruits and dark chocolate
Leeuwin Estate 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon - one of the most recognisable wines from Margaret River. Strong notes of dark berries, herbs and fine tannins with a little hint of seaweed
Fraser Gallop Estate Ice Pressed Chardonnay - a beautiful way to end the night. Juicy pears, apricot and vanilla. There were so many layers in this pour. A beautiful ice wine that we would want to keep in our cellar
It was a really strong start with our wines with generous pours. Both these red wines were great on their own. Slightly young and would benefit from longer cellaring, but were already bringing forth their potential now. Delicious on their own, better with the steak.
Now, our steak. We were presented with a small but curated menu of steaks from Collinson and Co, O'Connor as well as Mayura Station. All of the 3 largest beef purveyors in Australia. Our service staff also shared about the in-house dry aged beef. At 270 AUD/kg, the dry-aged steaks represent one of 6HEADs more premium offerings. We opted for a 700g dry-aged steak on the bone and were presented our steak before it was sent off to the kitchen. We were told that the beef was prepared with chocolate flavoured rubs, which adds really unique dimensions to the aging process.
Once cooked, our server returned to our table to slice it up in front of us as they explained the different parts of the steak. Dry aged beef allows the natural enzymes to slowly breakdown muscle fibers as moisture evaporates over time. We end up with a piece of beef that has concentrated flavours and tender meat. The dry aged beef we had was extremely tender with a beautiful mouthful of mushrooms and nuts and we enjoyed every moment of it. Together on the side we were served chips as well as a beautiful salad.
One of the things we really wanted to mention was the service of the team at 6HEAD Perth. From the moment we arrived at the restaurant, we were asked whether we were celebrating anything simple. This continued through the different servers we had at the start of the meal. We weren't celebrating anything in particular but did mention that it was the first time we were in Perth. At the end of our meal as we asked for the bill, our waiter came by with a little slice of cake that said Welcome to Perth and I thought that was such an amazingly sweet gesture. We didn't expect anything but he took what we mentioned to heart and really wanted to make us feel welcomed on our first trip to Perth. I thought that was so meaningful and it ended our night in such a beautiful moment which we appreciated alot and would keep in our everlasting food memory.

Booking
It does get busy in both the indoor and outdoor terraces, so do remember to book ahead of time. As I am writing this, the next available weekend indoor dining table for 2 pax at 7 pm is one month out.
Accessibility
6HEAD Perth is located right in the center of the CBD just by Elizabeth Quay which makes it extremely convenient and a 5 min walk from Elizabeth Quay Train Station. Perth is also extremely walkable and safe, so as long as you are in the city, 6HEAD Perth can be accessed by foot.
The Damage
I love dining in Australia because there are no nasty surprises in terms of taxes and service charge. What you see on the menu is what you pay for, except for credit card charges. Our damage for 6HEAD Perth was 180 AUD for the steak and 108 AUD for the 3 glasses of wine. Total damage: 288 AUD. We were also able to utilise our AMEX Platinum overseas credit of 120 AUD, meaning our meal was 168 AUD, which was such a steal.
Would We Recommend?
Yes! I love a steakhouse that is no fuss, uncomplicated and delivers. 6HEAD Perth was just that. The team was really pleasant and checked in on us multiple times through the dinner. And the meal was fantastic. The steak was brilliant and the wines on offer were fantastic. A place I would visit again (:
