Tenjin at Shaw is a smart-casual tempura restaurant that is under the Les Amis Group. Les Amis holds much of the dining spaces at Shaw, with Les Amis, Unagi Yondaime Kikukawa,, Sushi Jin, Bistro du vin, Jinjo, Scotts Grill, Shabu Jin, Tarte by Cheryl Koh all residing within Shaw Centre.

Originally located on the third floor of Shaw Centre, Tenjin has since moved to the larger ground floor location since Jul 2024. This new location offers a more spacious dining experience and has a nice warm Japanese aesthetics, making dining very pleasant. We visited on a weekend at 2pm and the venue was still quite crowded, however, we were able to get a seat immediately.

Lunch today was:
Tempura Moriawase Set - Snow Crab Leg, Anago, 2 Prawns, Kisu Fish, Asparagus, Shitake Mushroom, Eggplant, Pumpkin, Ohba Leaf Tentsuyu and Kyabetsu Salad served with cold soba
Special Tendon Set - 2 Prawns, Freedom Range Egg, Asparagus, Lotus Root, Shitake Mushroom, Eggplant, Pumpkin, Ohba Leaf, Japanese Rice and Kyabetsu Salad

Each set comes with rice, a cabbage salad as well as miso soup. The tempura was consistent across the different types of vegetables and seafood and was light and airy. I chose the Spicy Tare in this instance for the special tendon set. It was definitely not for the weak hearted. I thought it to be extremely spicy, perhaps a little too spicy for my liking.

Booking
Tenjin does not take reservations. In this instance, we walked in for lunch and were able to be given a table quite quickly, although we did have lunch a bit later. I have never seen a long line outside Tenjin before, probably because the venue is quite spacious and accomodates many tables.
Accessibility
The closest MRT station is at Orchard MRT with direct access underground and about a 5 min walk.
The Damage
The Tempura Moriawase Set was 28 SGD ++ and the Special Tendon Set was 18 SGD ++. For the quantity, it was very reasonably priced. We also had the Houjicha, which was free flow at 3 SGD per pax.
Would We Recommend?
For a quick hearty meal, yes we would recommend Tenjin. The tempura at this outlet was done well and the overall dining experience was good, with attentive staff and a nice ambience.
