Berthillon, the family run artisanal ice cream shop in Paris is considered the gold standard and an icon in Paris. Founded in 1954 by Raymon Berthillon, Berthillon remains a family run establishment which has become a Parisian institution. Outside is a traditional wooden storefront that beckons you. Inside Berthillon is a gorgeous wood paneled interior with lux marble tops, bringing you back decades into the old world.

Berthillon serves a very different style of ice cream as compared to its Italian counterparts. Made with egg custard for richness, the texture at Berthillon is much richer and creamier. We thought the flavours to be more intense, highlighting the pure concentration of the flavour into a smaller serve.

We had a Cafe ou Chocolate Liegeois, which was chocolate ice cream with whipped cream and also a double scoop of wild strawberry and dark chocolate. At Berthillon, the flavours are seasonal and the team uses what is in season at the time, alongside their standard staples. We highly recommend the wild strawberry and dark chocolate and others have also recommended Mirabelle, raspberry, vanilla and salted butter caramel.
Would We Recommend?
Yes! Whilst there are many cafes that serve Berthillon ice cream, we would still recommend visiting the main tea room in Berthillon. It is a completely different experience.
