Restaurant Fiz is led by Chef Hafizzul Hashim, who was awarded the Michelin Green Star. For those who have seen these green leafs running along the red Michelin Stars, the Michelin Guide Green Star is an award given to restaurants who demonstrate a commitment to sustainable practices and eco-responsibility in their day to day operations. This include prioritizing ethical and sustainable suppliers as well as minimizing waste.

Restaurant Fiz was opened in 2023 and it has become a restaurant that gets spoken alot amongst our group of friends along the likes of Seroja, embracing bold flavours and Malaysian produce. What I love about Restaurant Fiz is that they serve Halal Produce. This has been a much needed space in fine dining all around the world. There are many times when we host guests who have dietary requirements, including Muslims and it is incredibly difficult to find a fine dining restaurant that is able to accomodate. Cue: Restaurant Fiz.

There are multiple options when dining at Restaurant Fiz, either go the whole shebang with the Full Experience, over 11 dishes or choose from the ala carte menu. I dined with a guest from the northern hemisphere and after a full day at work, we were not feeling up to the 3 hour experience, and decided on the ala carte instead.

We had:

  • Heirloom Tomatoes served with Chilli Pineapple Sorbet, Bolete Mushroom Garum

  • Cage Free Kampong Chicken served with Rendang

  • Blue Swimmer & Spanner Crab with Gaeng Gati, Picked Belimbing Buloh

  • Acacia Shoots Omelette with Kampong Chicken Eggs

  • Nasi Dagang with Beras Adan and Rumie, Coconut Milk, Ginger and Fenugreek

The food was so delicious. I am partial to SEA food, particularly fine dining that showcases the region and especially ones that do this well. Wherever possible, when we have guests from overseas, we bring them to a restaurant that embodies this, elevated local flavours and one you cannot get elsewhere except when you are in the region. Chef Hafizzul Hashim has a huge grill to cook mangal style which impacts a super smoky flavour into some of these grilled dishes. This is done so right, so kampung style. All the dishes we had were on point and needless to say, our guest from overseas fell in love with SEA flavours. If there was one thing i needed, it was exactly that, someone not from the region loving our food.

Food aside, how does the restaurant fare in general? Restaurant Fiz is set in a gorgeous space with very friendly staff and chef. However, there are some little issues that took away from the experience. For example, when I arrived, I asked for a bag stand to place my bag as I was sitting close to the walkway. However, the server informed that there were no bag stands available and just a woven rattan tray that could be placed on the floor and so I sat through dinner with my bag on my lap. It is not a huge deal breaker for us and truly just a first world problem, but it certainly takes away from the experience. Similarly, in the earlier part of service, there was plenty of clattering, bottles nearly dropping and plates colliding which got better as dinner service progressed. I believe Restaurant Fiz would be a strong contender for a Michelin Star in the future, and these lapses would take away so much from the overall experience.

Booking

At the time of writing, there is still availability of tables a week out at the 6pm or 8.30 pm slot. Restaurant bookings are only open 21 days in advance, so do take note to book once there is availability.

Accessibility

Restaurant Fiz is at the top of the Tanjong Pagar Belt, walking distance from Maxwell MRT (approximately 150 m) which makes it extremely convenient.

The Damage

The full experience would set you back 228 ++ SGD. Alternatively, take your pick on the ala carte menu. Our 4 dishes set us back approximately 270 SGD, including drinks.

Would we recommend?

Yes! I love that the food was delightful and flavoursome. And I also love that Restaurant Fiz is filling a large gap in the fine dining space for our Muslim friends. It is casual fine dining, the team is happy and the food is good and we would definitely visit again.
