There is something otherworldly about the Qatari desert, it was a vast expanse where the dunes seem to ripple endlessly into the horizon. We enjoyed the thrill of dune bashing, the vastness and beauty of Qatar and then an amazing middle eastern feast in the middle of the desert.

Caracara sits at 77 Neil Road, right in the heart of Tangjong Pagar. Housed in a heritage shophouse, the restaurant shares its address with the Michelin-starred Chaleur, which we previously reviewed. Step inside Caracara and you are greeted by a bright, sleek interior with some gorgeous wooden features. D'rim is definitely more expensive than most k-BBQ places but the service is premium and the ingredients are premium. Their side dishes are also uncommon, including wild garlic leaves and watersnail tofu gang deon jang. This was our second time at this restaurant and I am sure there will be plenty more.

If you are the kind of traveller who seeks out local gems, places where the food is the main event and the setting is part of the adventure, then Bao Er in Balestier Plaza should be on your list to visit. This unassuming spot located on Level 2 of Balestier Plaza, a place that is not often frequented.

Movida is the OG of Spanish Tapas in Melbourne and Chef Frank Camorra is the person behind this. Movida Singapore opened in 2024 as part of the Surrey Hills group on Level 3 in Raffles City alongside Bon Broth as well as Mensho Tokyo. I can't believe it has taken us a whole year before visiting!

The question still remains, Katsuya or Tonshou? Japanese v Korea. Katsuya is for the Tonkatsu purist, classic and Japanese, as with the ambience. You wouldn't be disappointed at Katsuyas.
